Los Gigantes, Tenerife, Canary Islands

Los Gigantes is all about scale. The town sits beside one of Tenerife’s most dramatic natural landmarks, the enormous dark cliffs that rise straight out of the Atlantic and dominate the west coast. Even if you have seen photos, the sense of height and mass is stronger in person.

The town itself is a practical coastal base, but the cliffs are the real reason to come. They shape the views, the sea excursions and the whole character of the place.

Why go

Los Gigantes is best for boat trips, kayaking, diving and sea-level views back towards the cliffs. This is one of the strongest places in Tenerife to experience the coast from the water rather than only from shore.

What kind of stop it is

Compared with the more polished southwest resorts, Los Gigantes feels more tied to landscape than beach-strip life. It is still a resort town, but one with a clear natural focal point that gives it a stronger identity than many purpose-built coastal areas.

Practical notes

Los Gigantes works well when paired with Punta de Teno, the west coast and the wider southwest. If you are choosing it as a base, do so because you want the cliffs, sea activities and west-coast position, not because you want the broadest range of beaches or nightlife.
