La Gomera from Tenerife

La Gomera from Tenerife, Tenerife, Canary Islands

La Gomera is not part of Tenerife, but it is the neighboring island most travelers in south Tenerife can reach most easily. From Los Cristianos, the ferry crossing is short enough to make a day trip realistic, which is why this route is part of many Tenerife itineraries.

The draw is contrast. La Gomera feels greener, steeper and slower, with a smaller capital, quieter roads and a different island rhythm. Even a short visit can make Tenerife itself feel broader and more varied.

Why go

This is a good day trip if you are staying in the south and want to see another Canary Island without turning your trip into a full island-hop. San Sebastian de La Gomera is the easiest first stop, especially if you only have a day.

Practical notes

If you want to go beyond the port town and understand the island properly, an overnight stay is much better than a day trip. But as a first taste from Tenerife, La Gomera is one of the most rewarding add-ons available.
