Cueva del Viento

Cueva del Viento, Tenerife, Canary Islands

Cueva del Viento is one of Tenerife’s strongest geology-focused visits and one of the best indoor-style alternatives to yet another beach day. Near Icod de los Vinos, it reveals the underground side of the island’s volcanic story through guided access to a major lava-tube system formed by flows from the Teide-Pico Viejo complex.

The experience is about interpretation as much as spectacle. You go for the sense of how the island was shaped, not for a polished show cave with decorative lighting.

Why go

This is a good stop for travelers interested in volcanology, families wanting a structured activity or anyone exploring the north and west who wants something different from viewpoints and town squares.

Practical notes

Visits are guided and should be planned ahead. Wear suitable footwear and expect a more natural, educational underground experience than a purely scenic one.
