Los Cristianos
Tenerife | GPS: 28.0489062, -16.7115979Los Cristianos was one of the first parts of south Tenerife to develop for tourism, but it still holds onto more original town character than many visitors expect. Around the old centre and harbour, you can still find the outline of a fishing community beneath the apartment blocks, beach traffic and ferry activity.
That combination makes it one of the more balanced bases in the south. You get beaches, easy transport, lots of places to eat and a useful port, but also squares, older streets and a less manufactured feel than some neighbouring resort areas.
Why stay here
Los Cristianos works well if you want a classic sunny Tenerife break without being locked into a purely party-focused strip. The promenade is easy, the beaches are accessible and the town is practical for families, ferry day trips and longer stays.
Harbour and island links
The port is a major part of the town’s identity. Ferries connect Los Cristianos with nearby islands such as La Gomera as well as other western Canary routes, so the town is especially handy if you want Tenerife to be part of a wider island-hopping trip. Even if you stay put, the waterfront keeps the area feeling active.
Practical notes
The centre is walkable, but the wider south-coast urban area sprawls, so expect traffic and busy public spaces. Los Cristianos is best for travelers who want convenience and sunshine with a bit more everyday Canarian texture than the larger resort developments nearby.
