Icod de los Vinos is best known for its famous drago tree, but it makes more sense when seen as part of Tenerife’s broader northwest. It is a historic town with views towards El Teide, links to the surrounding wine country and access to volcanic landscapes that make this side of the island so rewarding.
The drago is the headline draw, and rightly so, but Icod is not only a photo stop. The centre has enough atmosphere to justify slowing down, especially if you are already exploring Garachico, Los Silos or the routes inland.
