El Teide
Tenerife | GPS: 28.2723384, -16.642508El Teide is the defining landmark of Tenerife and the peak that gives the island much of its scale, identity and visual drama. Even if you never go near the summit, the surrounding national park is one of the strongest landscapes in the Canary Islands: lava fields, rock towers, broad caldera views and a light that changes constantly with the weather.
You can experience Teide at several levels. Some visitors simply drive the scenic roads and stop at viewpoints. Others ride the cable car, tackle longer trails or aim for the summit itself.
Why go
Teide is essential if you want to understand Tenerife beyond its coast. It is the island’s great interior experience and a place that shifts from road-trip scenic to genuinely high-altitude mountain terrain very quickly.
Practical notes
Altitude, wind and sun exposure matter here more than many first-time visitors expect. If you want the summit itself, plan permits and timing early; if not, the wider park still offers more than enough for a memorable visit.
