Surfing beaches in Tenerife
TenerifeTenerife has more than one surf identity. The south is easier for lessons and consistency, the north is better for raw Atlantic character, and El Medano sits slightly apart because windsurfing and kitesurfing dominate the conversation there.
Best areas by style
- Playa de las Americas: The classic base for surf schools, board hire and easier access if you want lessons or a straightforward south-coast setup.
- El Medano: Best known for wind and board sports, especially windsurfing and kitesurfing, though it also attracts surfers who like an active water-sports atmosphere.
- Puerto de la Cruz beaches such as Playa Jardin and nearby breaks: A good north-coast option if you want surf culture with an urban base.
- Almaciga and other Anaga beaches: Better suited to experienced surfers who want a more exposed and less forgiving setting.
Practical notes
Conditions change fast around Tenerife, especially on the north coast. If you are new, start with schools in the south or in established Puerto de la Cruz setups rather than guessing your own spot.
